QUEEN'S PARK – As more examples of the rapidly growing scandal at eHealth Ontario surface daily, the McGuinty Liberals continue to turn a blind eye – leaving Ontario taxpayers on the hook for millions, PC MPP Tim Hudak (Niagara West-Glanbrook) said today.
“Middle class families and seniors struggling to make ends meet are increasingly angered by the disregard and abuse of taxpayers' dollars," said Hudak. “We continue to hear more about overspending, waste and millions in untendered Liberal-friendly contracts being awarded at eHeath – and still, the McGuinty Liberals do nothing.”
In the Legislature today, Hudak called on the government to explain why millions in untendered contracts were given to high-priced consultants with close ties to top eHealth officials (see backgrounder below) and to stop the practice immediately.
Liberal-friendly consulting firms Accenture and Courtyard received $3.3 million in contracts from eHealth Ontario. A partner at Accenture, William Falk was listed as a reference on eHealth CEO Sarah Kramer’s job application to the agency while Anzen Consulting’s Miyo Yamashita, wife of Courtyard’s Michael Guerriere, was awarded over $260,000 for a four-month contract. Yamashita was hired to produce a communications plan and branding strategy for eHealth but the agency also paid consultant Donna Kline over $190,000 to do the same thing, at the same time.
“Why have Dalton McGuinty and his Minister have allowed this quid pro quo, ‘you scratch my back and I’ll scratch yours’ mentality to fester and grow at this rogue agency?” asked Hudak. “It’s time for this government to do the right thing – the Minister should resign immediately and let someone else start to finally clean up this incredible mess.”
