Hudak Brings Gypsy Moth Fight to Floor of Legislature

QUEEN’S PARK – In the Legislature today, Niagara West-Glanbrook MPP Tim Hudak tabled a notice of motion to continue his fight against gypsy moth infestation. Hudak’s motion calls upon the Ministry of Natural Resources to create and fund a cost shared gypsy moth spraying program with interested municipalities and property owners. “Residents and land owners in Niagara and Hamilton have seen too much time pass with no action from Premier McGuinty to fight gypsy moth infestation,” said Hudak. “The Province needs to act immediately to stop even more damage to the local environment, particularly in Pelham, West Lincoln and Glanbrook.” Since November 2006, gypsy moths have devastated countless trees in Niagara and Glanbrook. Hudak has written three separate letters and continues to press the Minister of Natural Resources urging him to help municipalities in Niagara and Hamilton deal with gypsy moth infestation. Hudak’s notice of motion reads: “That, in the opinion of this House, the Ministry of Natural Resources should create and fund a shared cost gypsy moth spraying program to circumvent the ongoing spread of moth-infested trees and woodlots causing damage to personal property, parks and the environment, with municipalities that have demonstrated a need or interest such as Hamilton and Niagara.”
