Niagara not on Dalton’s Map

QUEEN’S PARK – Dalton McGuinty told Niagara residents today not to count on any GO extensions to Niagara before 2020. While Tim Hudak has been a strong advocate of extending GO Transit to Niagara, Dalton’s pre-election campaign transit announcement refuses to include a single project for Niagara.

Tim has championed better transportation funding for Niagara in the HouseTim has championed better transportation funding for Niagara in the House“Dalton’s map must put Niagara in Western New York,” said Hudak. “The reality is that there is no mention of funding any time before 2020.”

A PC Government, on the other hand, would not exclude areas outside of Toronto from transit funding. Niagara and other communities would see meaningful transit improvements by dedicating gasoline and fuel tax revenue to transportation and transit projects.

McGuinty’s recent announcement is another pre-election promise. McGuinty couldn’t keep most of his promises over the last four years. How can people expect to believe he will keep a promise in 2020? Some of his broken transit promises include:

• A seamless transportation network across the GTA
• An integrated ticket system within 18 months
• A GTTA that will be given the resources and clout to tackle gridlock

“After years of broken promises and inaction on Ontario’s transit system, Ontarians will not be fooled by this latest announcement,” said Hudak. “Ontarians want and deserve improvement in their transit system, something Dalton has not delivered.”
