Tim Hudak, MPP for Niagara West - Glanbrook and PC Finance critic sent his best wishes to outgoing Liberal Finance Minister Greg Sorbara today citing his admiration for Sorbara's dedication to the Province. This afternoon, Greg Sorbara announced in a Queen's Park press conference that he intends to continue to serve as the MPP for Vaughan but has asked Premier McGuinty not to consider him for a Cabinet position.
Hudak had served as Sorbara's opposite in the Legislature, acting as PC Finance critic since August of 2005. Sorbara had served as Liberal Finance Minister and a close Cabinet confidant of Premier McGuinty.
"While Greg and I had our share of verbal jousts in the Legislature, we had a good working relationship and I always appreciated our ability to discuss important issues in a civil and constructive way," said Hudak. "Greg comes from the school of respect for the work Members of the Assembly do regardless of political affiliation. While he is a dedicated, highly effective and very senior member of the Liberal party, Greg understood where to draw the line between partisanship and collegiality."
Hudak, Sorbara and NDP Finance critc Michael Prue squared off in three separate debates during the recent election campaign. Sorbara recently called Hudak to congratulate him on the birth of his daughter, Miller Olive Hudak.
"Greg is probably the most effective communicator in the Cabinet and will be difficult to replace," said Hudak. "Nonetheless, Greg has dedicated an enormous part of his life to public service including admirable leadership as Ontario's Minister of Finance. He has certainly earned some well deserved time with his family and will continue to serve the constituents of Vaughan very well."
